Welcome to Herman St. Studios

Located in historic Germantown in Philadelphia, this 1928 brick mill building is home for the area’s most talented and innovative artists and makers. To work in a Herman St. Studio long term is very common, naturally creating a community both inspiring and supportive.

In 1995, brothers and partners John Fiorella and Michael Fiorella bought 20 E. Herman St. to expand and house their established custom woodworking business. Fiorella Woodworking specialized in creating historic woodwork, molding, windows, doors and architectural millwork for architects, contractors, homeowners and Philadelphia’s renowned institutions including University of Pennsylvania and the Penn Archeological Museum.

With space in addition to their shop, they created the first artist studio in 1996 and over the next 10 years, they continued to build and welcome artists, makers, and craftspeople to 20 E. Herman St. The result is a naturally occurring community which is unique in its diversity and scope.
